When it came to the food, we were hungry but made the incorrect assumption that portions would be skimpy, so we ended up ordering more than we could really handle.

All of it was beautifully prepared and scrumptious. We had a beet salad with goat cheese and coffee crumbs and also ordered house-made focaccia with cultured butter.

These two items would have made a good starter for a table of four, it turns out. We tried out best and took some focaccia home. Next we shared a pasta with a shredded duck sauce.

That could have really been a great meal, but we had also each ordered entrees! I had scallops with fried kale and butternut squash and hubby had short ribs.

All really good. Hubby needed a bit of salt at the table for his short ribs, which he asked for and received, making it perfect.

Now, you might think that we skipped dessert after having gone through a surprisingly substantial set of dishes. But, alas, we needed to complete our "research" of this place.

Hubby went for his typical favorite, an affogato and I find it hard to resist a buttermilk pannacotta this one had a zippy caramel topping and a crunchy cereal topping on top of that.

Even the dessert was generous and wonderful -- I ended taking some of it home, which I almost never do!

Outside of the fact that it's rare to get this level of creative and perfectly executed cuisine in Bergen County, it's even more rare to experience the professional, warm, and efficient service we normally expect in the city.
